ARMOR OF GOD

"Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand" (EPHESIANS 6:13). The word armor appears 41 times in both testaments of the Bible and generally implies weapon for warfare. It is either borne by the user or an aide, called armor bearer. In the New Testament it is called: armor of light, and gospel armor. According to Rick Joyner, "The entire Church age has been one of spiritual warfare, and that warfare is increasing as we approach the end of this age". All Christian soldiers must bear the armor and fight in the deadly warfare against the powers of darkness. You cannot stay neutral. (Ephesians 6:12; 2 Corinthians 10:3-4). The Christian warfare is spiritual, so we must fight with spiritual weapons to overcome the adversaries (2 Corinthians 10:3-4). The components of the armor include Truth, Righteousness, and the sword of the Spirit. There is no guarantee of safety for the unarmed ...

REMAIN FOCUSED

"Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do" (1 TIMOTHY 1:4). 1 TIMOTHY 1-11 In the course of daily life, there are always contending and contrasting signals that crave for the attention of the unwary. He that is without a clear focus is often a victim of the push-and-pull tendencies of life. At this time, Timothy was left in Ephesus by Paul the apostle for a purpose. He charged Timothy to instruct brethren to teach no other doctrine than that which they had been taught. Timothy was warned not to dabble into fables and genealogies which only "minister questions." While some came to teach false doctrines at Ephesus, there were also some Jews who used the Old Testament law to justify themselves. They were unable to keep the demands of the law and were resistant to the grace of God. They placed great importance on the keeping of correct ancestral records. This attitude left the...

LENDING TO THE LORD

"And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship" (Luke 5:3) Luke 5: 1-11 John Mason, preacher and bestselling author, was right when he observed that "the big problem is not the haves and have nots; it’s the give nots. The Lord loves a cheerful giver – and so does everyone." Unfortunately, many people strive to get as much as possible and give little or nothing away. That way, they continue to miss the ample blessings attached to giving. The experience of Simon Peter in the Bible reference for meditation bears testimony to the blessedness of giving to the Lord. Peter gladly released his boat to Christ to minister to people who had come to hear God’s word. After ministering to the multitude, Christ turned to Peter and instructed him to launch out into the deep and let down his nets for a catch. He did and the catch was so huge that...

A GLIMPSE OF HIS GRACE

"At thy rebuke, O God of Jacob, both the chariot and the horse are cast into a dead sleep" (Psalm 76:6) Psalm 76:1-12 In 1863, former President Abraham Lincoln of the United States declared in a state address: “We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of heaven; we have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity; we have grown in numbers, wealth, and power as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us, and we have vainly imagined, in deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of the redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us.” That was a sincere acknowledgement of God’s graciousness to America which hitherto placed its trust in H...

CONSCIOUS CHOICE!

"Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?" (Romans 6:16) "We are our choices", says Jean-Paul Sartre. O yeah, it is indeed, your choice! And no one has any right to challenge it. Are you making a choice on social relationships, career or religious matters? Its your choice, but ensure that it is a conscious and an eternally profitable one. If you choose to reject the gospel of salvation, ridicule the preachers and even jest about the way of righteousness or Jesus Christ Himself, it is your choice. You may want to brand dedicated and righteous people of God as old-fashioned, holier-than-thou-fanatics, simply because they distinguish themselves in righteousness and would not compromise their beliefs. It's all your choice! Remember, however, that a responsibility goes with every choice you make in this life, this world. As it is your choi...

STRENGTH TO SOAR

"But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength ; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary." ( Isaiah 40:31) The eagle is one of the most powerful birds in the world. Its mental acuity is superb. An Eagle is a perfect flying machine with remarkably developed eyesight to survey a five-mile area with great accuracy. Its bold, swift and majestic. Nations (Nigeria, USA, Austria, Mexico, Portugal, United Kingdom, and Zambia), corporate bodies, leaders and achievers use this magnificent birds as their symbol - the symbol of a strength. Adversity or denial of legitimate right can bring weariness to any youth but it is meant to test his resilience and prepare him for future challenges. "As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings: So the Lord alone did lead him, and there was no strange God with him" (Deuteronomy 32:11). God does not expect you ...

A BARRIER TO SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS

"Samuel said to Saul, Bid the servants pass on before us... but stand thou still a while, that I may shew thee the word of God." (1 Samuel 9:27) Do you ever wonder why people fail in life endeavors? Prophet Samuel's counsel to young Saul above shows that some friendship can be unhelpful. The servant, if allowed, could have become a serious distraction. There are so many Christians today who would have advanced far beyond their current spiritual status in Christ but for their continued association with some persons, habits or specific secular engagements. Similarly, many youngsters remain bound in sin today. They could have been saved had they separated from some particular friends, relatives, philosophies or habits. Often, such relationships may be useful in some pecuniary sense, yet our spiritual blessings maybe encumbered by them. Don't swap your blessings! The restraining influence of such relationships is parallel to presence of the servant who was a valuab...

CHAMPIONS AND COWARDS!

"And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it" (Numbers 13:30) A champion is one who competes and wins in a contest. You cannot become a champion when you have not faced and overcome challenges. What makes the difference between cowards and champions is the attitude to challenges. Cowards dread difficult situations, while champions see hard times as opportunities to do the rare. Champions are always ready for challenges. Dare to be a champion! The conquest of Canaan is a case in point; of the 12 spies sent by Moses to spy out the land, only Caleb and Joshua (outta the 12 spies sent) thought that they could conquer it with God's help. The other 10 spies said Israel confronting the Canaanites is like a fight between grasshoppers and giants! That's doubt and doubt is evil!  Where do you belong? If you face a problem in your life, see it as a price you have to pay for your own progress. ...

TRAGEDY OF THE GREEDY ; CONSECRATION FOR VICTORY

"Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant" (Joshua 7:11) Victory is always sweet to the victor, but defeat can be degrading for the conquered. After conquering many formidable enemy nations, Israel suffered a defeat in a small town called Ai. Why?  Isn't it it fascinating to know why a reigning champion lost to the least expected?  So, back to the question. Why? The Bible says Israel hath sinned (Joshua 7:11). How did it all happened? Achan stole devoted treasures which God warned them not to touch. The entire congregation was punished because of the sin of just one man. This should be a warning to you not to have fellowship with sinners or be in league with them, lest you share in their guilt. (Hebrew 12:15). Your misdemeanor can bring disaster on the entire family. The misbehavior of one student can bring untold anguish on the entire school population. The indiscretion of one politician can bring calamity upon a whole country. Until Israel,...

ENOUGH? ESAU

Enough Esau?  And Esau said: "I have enough." ( Genesis 33:9) Many young people have SELF DECEPTION as their first name like Esau in our text! They may be born into opulence and raised amidst unbridled luxury!!  In childhood, such people are surrounded by domestic helpers who take their orders and do virtually everything for them. At their command, they get things done for em, so life's good. Thus, they grow up totally bereft of skills and wanting in social etiquette. Above all, such young people are mostly irreligious, having been made to trust in riches and disdain godliness. Oddly, people like these consider themselves privileged ; resist the gospel and assume they have enough. The Bible says, "Not that we are sufficient to ourselves to think anything as of ourselves ; but our sufficiency is of God" (1 Corinthians 3:5).  Unfortunately, such youth, adult or even teenager only get to appreciate the vanity of this life when some health challenge arise, d...

WHY ASK WHY?

Why ask why? "That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourself know that we are appointed thereunto." (1 Thessalonians 3:3) In his thought-provoking book, "Why Ask Why", the bestselling author, John Mason, wondered why people ask too many questions about their life experiences instead of facing the realities of life. Infact, the subtitle of the book reads: if you know the Right Questions You Can Find the Right Answers. Sometimes, challenges come the way of a boy or girl. Has your dream of a good university education been shattered by sudden demise of a parent or guardian? Besides, challenges of some sort are an effective tools that can move you to excel in spite of all odds. Thomas Alba Edison was partially deaf and had only three months of formal education, yet he invented the incandescent light bulb in 1880 and many other things; Franklin Delano Roosevelt ruled America as President from the wheel chair during the Great Depression and World Wa...

THE GOOD SHEPHERD

Shepherd of the Sheep "I am the good shepherd" (John 10:11) One day, David the king, a young Hebrew boy, was helping his father Jesse in his flock business and finding pasture in the hot Palestine desert. He was diligent and dedicated to his father's flock as he took care of them as best as he could. Suddenly, a ferocious lion emerged from the bush nearby and grabbed one of the sheep. David, the boy went after the lion and killed it and saved that sheep. At another time, a bloody-thirsty bear came as well attacking this same set of sheep. It grabbed one of the robust rams. David the boy again displayed bravery as he strangled the beast. A shepherd's task is very challenging and scary. Sheep are inured to wandering and attacks by predators. It's the shepherd's duty to track his sheep and bring them back to the fold when they stray and will be safe from predators of all sort. A shepherd also keeps the maranders at bay. Jesus said as I quote,  "I am ...

ABIDE IN CHRIST

Christ is everything we need. He is our Salvation, our Righteousness, our Love, our Joy, our Wisdom, our Power, our Victory, our Patience, our Life, and much more. Indeed, Christ is our all in all. Jesus Christ can be unto you of everything, so when you have Christ, you've it all. How do we experience these things?  We experience them as we abide in Christ. The Lord Jesus said, "Abide in Me, and I [will live out My life] in you." Our part is to abide in Him. His part is to do everything we need How do I abide in Christ? We abide in Christ by knowing we are in Christ: God Himself put us in Christ. Abiding in Christ is simply living in the truth of what God has done. One of the greatest secret of abiding in Christ is the deep conviction that we are nothing and Christ is everything. If we take the letter CHRIST away from the word CHRISTIAN, what do we have left?  You have IAN which stands for I Am Nothing. Our Lord said, "Apart from Me, you can do nothing." ...

ENTERING THE HOLY OF HOLIES

In the Holy of Holies, we behold a scene in which everything is for God's delight and pleasure. Everything there speaks of Christ! The room itself is filled with the fragrance of Christ. What do we do in the Holy of Holes? We behold the glory of Christ. He is "the express image" of God the bible says, the One who has perfectly revealed the Father. We behold the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. The bible says,  "For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. (2 Corinthians 4:6) Glory indicates God's satisfaction. The glory of Christ is that He is the Accomplisher of all the purposes of God. God's perfect satisfaction and delight rests on Christ, now and forever! As pilgrims, we press on to our eternal home in Heaven. The burning sands and desert thorns may hurt our weary feet, but, like Paul, we say: "For I consider tha...

DO I HANDLE OFFENSES ACCORDING TO GOD'S WORD?

Life being what it is, we will always have problems, offenses, and personality conflicts. But it is a serious thing to hold a grudge or bitterness against someone. In the book of Matthew 5, the Lord tells us what to do if we have offended someone. We are to go to that person, confess our sin and ask for forgiveness. It is always good to confess our mistakes throughly without making excuses. Be sure the matter is settled to their satisfaction. In Matthew 18, the Lord Jesus Christ tells us what to do if someone has offended us. We are not to talk to other people about it, but we are to go to the person who has offended us, tell him or her his offense and try and make things right. You see, what pleased God is certainly not what we esteem so great as the right thing to do, but what actually brings peace as instructed by Gods word. To allow bitterness and unforgiveness to take root in our hearts and to poison our minds is tragic and inexcusable. God simply cannot use a person who has ...

WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED?

What must I do to be saved? (Acts 16:31) We are saved, not by doing good works or any work, but by believing on the Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible says, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved" (Acts 16:31) What does it mean to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ?  To answer this question, let us see the meaning of His name. LORD - This is His kingly name. God has made Him "Lord of all". Jesus Christ is over all things in God's universe. JESUS - This is His personal name. It means "Savior". He is our Savior, the Savior of the world - the One who died for our sins and rose from the grave to become our living Savior. CHRIST - This is His official name. It means that He is the "Anointed One". He is the One chosen and anointed by God as the promised Savior. Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the One Anointed by God to be your Savior? Do you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins? This is a huge and very ...
